Ceramic Brake Pads
Since the mid 1980’s ceramic brake pads have been used in
production cars.
Unlike semi-metallic pads that have steel in
them ceramic brake pads use copper. Under heavy use, ceramic brake pads provide more resistance to brake fade
because of the conductive heat properties of copper over steel. Steel takes a longer time to recovers to its best
stopping power than ceramic pads.
Semi-metallic pads have a short life than ceramic pads and
are noisier than ceramic pads and vibrate more. Ceramic pads are just the opposite. They have a low vibration
factor and noise level. Another benefit of ceramic brake pads is that the dust from them is much lighter than the
resin used in semi-metallic pads.
Semi-metallic
brake dust is stickier than ceramic pads. For this reason
most people choose ceramic brake pads because they reduce the amount of cleaning the car’s wheels. In
semi-metallic pads when brake dust is created and allowed to site on the car’s wheels it can damage the
wheel’s finish. With ceramic pads, because they contain less metal your car’s wheels can hold up longer
between cleanings.
There are a couple of popular ceramic brake pads that are on
the market today. Hawk Performance ceramic pads and EBC Redstuff pads. Both are excellent pads in wear and high
performance.
Hawk Performance
Ceramic brake pads are popular among luxury enthusiasts who demand performance as well as style.
These brake pads are known for their ultra-low dust formula that keeps your wheels looking their very best
longer.
Hawk Performance ceramic brake pads are ultra-premium pads.
They are formulated for high performance, ultra-low dust, low noise. The special compound their brake pads is
referred to as Performance Ceramic. Because of the demand these pads were engineered to reduce Noise, Vibration
Harshness or NVH, which resulted in a quieter performing brake pad.
Additionally, the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads formula has
a special profile that creates the ideal performance for ABS braking systems allowing your ABS to work more
effectively. The ceramic brake pads offered by Hawk Performance gives you lower brake pad wear, lower dust and
gentler wear on your rotors.
Hawk Performance Ceramic Compound
Features:
- Increased stopping power
- Increased rotor life
- Extended pad life
- Ultra-low dust
- Extremely quiet
- Stable friction output
The EBC Redstuff
ceramic brake pads are made from the highest quality Kevlar on the market. Enhanced with particles
of ceramic, Kevlar is a fiber-based compound. To properly condition the surface of the rotors by removing glaze and
scale, upon installation of the ceramic pads, the brake surface has been give a special brake-in surface to provide
instant brake efficiency.
In order to prevent heat expansion cracks and reduced braking
noise these pads are shimmed, chamfered and slotted. You can expect a brake dust reduction of up to 90% and
is easily removed from your wheels. From cold weather to high temperature you can expect the same high
performance from barely street legal whips to SUV’s and trucks.
